The Chemin de Saint-Régis

Cycling in the footsteps of the walker of God, it was in December 1640 that Jean-François Régis left Puy-en-Velay in the company of Brother Bideau to meet farmers to spread the good word. His path will lead him to Lalouvesc where he will die out… The Saint-Régis path is today a loop which gives you a view of some of the most beautiful landscapes of Haute-Loire but also of Ardèche… The bike is a great way to take your eyes full and get drunk on the scents of the high plateau meadows, the pines, the rivers that come alive…

Day 1 : Your arrival in Le Puy-en-Velay

A day of discovery of the city of Puy-en-Velay.
The opportunity to discover the Vellave city. ! You stroll and discover the upper town of Puy-en-Velay. Take the secret streets, discover the Cathedral starting point of the Way of Saint Jacques de Compostela.

Day2 : LE PUY-EN-VELAY - MOUDEYRES - 37KM - D+880M

Join the Puy greenway which will lead you peacefully to Coubon where you will follow the Saint-Régis path to the Monastier-sur-Gazeille. The GR 430 continues its route between small roads and forest tracks to take you to Freycenet la Tour and finally Moudeyres and its thatched cottages.

A beautiful day to discover the high plateaus of Mézenc, the meadows of the AOP du Fin Gras, the volcanic lake of Saint-Front and heritage of all kinds.

Day 4 : SAINT-AGRÈVE - LALOUVESC : 36KM - D+760M

After Lake Devesset, you will enjoy a beautiful descent in the middle of nature, combining road and track. Nature is intense, it's a treat even if the ascent to Lalouvesc is a bit steep!

Day 5 : LALOUVESC - MONTFAUCON - 48KM - D+815M

It is first of all small roads before joining a beautiful track that takes you to the heights to reach the city of mushrooms and gastronomy of Haute-Loire (Saint-Bonnet-le-Froid). Thereafter you join Dunières and its logging before reaching Montfaucon / Raucoules.

On the way to Haut-Lignon to reach the small town of Tence then alternating between paths and small roads you contemplate the peak of Lizieux before switching to Meygal and its phonolite stones.

Take advantage of the last pedal strokes to discover the volcanic mounts (sucs) on the small road that leads to the cascading mills of Neyzac before reaching Saint-Julien-Chapteuil.
