After taking possession of your bikes, set off up the GR 3 which winds up to the plateaus that overlook the Loire valley. Cycle along quiet, picturesque roads and accessible trails to the small village of Chadron, Présailles and then ride down towards the lovely village of Goudet, on the edge of the Loire.

You'll need plenty of energy for Day 2, when you cycle up to the high plateaus that overlook the Loire valley. From Ussel village, turn off towards Sauvetat then Landos, where you will join the GR 70, the Robert Louis Stevenson Trail. The commune of Bouchet-Saint-Nicolas houses one of the most beautiful lakes in the Haute-Loire, the Bouchet volcanic lake (jump in for a refreshing dip, depending on the weather).

Ride through the impressive Domaniale forest of Lac du Bouchet to reach Montbonnet and the charming Saint-Roch chapel. You now pedal on the GR 65, better known as the James Way of Santiago de Compostela to reach the fresh valley of Dolaizon before strolling in the narrow streets of Puy-en-Velay ...
