You then walk through unspoilt natural surroundings, crossing vast limestone plateaus, enjoying sweeping panoramas and discovering landscapes shaped over the centuries. Gradually, the trail leads you towards the Jonte Valley, before reaching the spectacular Cirque de Navacelles, a true natural gem and one of the highlights of this remarkable journey.
As the stages unfold, you discover the extraordinary diversity of the landscapes of Occitanie: dramatic gorges, wild limestone plateaus, lush valleys and mysterious Cévennes forests. 3, 2, 1… here we go! It’s time to gain some altitude and climb towards the fabulous Causse Méjean. The ascent is a little demanding, but you are quickly rewarded with exceptional views over the Tarn Gorges. As you climb higher, the landscape gradually transforms, revealing the wild and unspoilt beauty of this remarkable region.
On the Causse Méjean, wide-open spaces and almost desert-like landscapes stretch as far as the eye can see, with vast pastures meeting rugged rocks and limestone formations. Here, the feeling of immensity and freedom is ever-present, while a peaceful silence accompanies every step.
Soon, you reach Les Nivoliers or Mas-Saint-Chély, small hamlets perched high on the Causse, offering a wonderful glimpse into the quiet, authentic life of this exceptional plateau.

Continue your journey across the Causse Méjean, a vast and wild limestone plateau that is also home to the famous Przewalski’s horses. As you walk, the unspoilt landscapes and wide-open spaces create a wonderful sense of freedom and escape.
Gradually, the landscape begins to change as you draw closer to Meyrueis and the spectacular Jonte Gorges. A whole new atmosphere emerges, with dramatic cliffs, deep valleys and breathtaking panoramas.
A wonderfully immersive stage, where the wild beauty of the Causse Méjean accompanies you all the way to the gateway of the Jonte Gorges.

Today, the scenery changes as you return to woodland landscapes and shady trails, gradually making your way towards Camprieu. After the wild, wide-open spaces of the Causses, this section offers a more intimate atmosphere, surrounded by lush and generous nature.
As you follow the trail, the trees gradually give way to beautiful openings onto the surrounding landscapes. You can then enjoy magnificent views over the valley and the Aigoual Massif before continuing your journey.
A wonderfully varied stage, combining the coolness of the forests with sweeping panoramas across the rugged landscapes of the Aigoual.

Today, you gradually lose altitude as you make your way towards Aulas, then Le Vigan. After the higher landscapes of the Aigoual, the trail invites you to slow down and fully enjoy the descent, taking your time and savouring the journey.
You continue your walk along the water, accompanied by the river and its lovely waterfalls, which bring a refreshing and peaceful touch to the route. Little by little, you reach Avèze, a charming village nestled in a lush green setting.
A gentle and refreshing stage, where the river, waterfalls and Cévennes landscapes accompany you down into the valley.

One of the highlights of your adventure along the Saint-Guilhem Trail awaits you today: the spectacular Cirque de Navacelles! A truly magnificent natural site, shaped by the forces of nature, offering breathtaking panoramas.
Some sections of the trail are slightly exposed, which may be challenging for walkers who are prone to vertigo. But there is no need to worry: by taking your time, walking at a steady pace and staying attentive, you can fully enjoy this exceptional landscape.
So take your time, breathe deeply… and let yourself be amazed by one of the most spectacular landscapes along the entire trail!

After a beautiful ascent, you reach the village of Saint-Maurice-de-Navacelles, perched amid wild and unspoilt landscapes.
From here, you continue towards La Vacquerie-et-Saint-Martin-de-Castries, following peaceful trails through limestone landscapes and wide-open spaces. A wonderful way to continue this journey through an atmosphere that remains wonderfully wild and far removed from the everyday.
Please note: due to a rockfall in the Vis Gorges, a diversion is currently in place to reach Saint-Maurice-de-Navacelles.

Today marks the final stage of your adventure along the Saint-Guilhem Trail! You continue along the GR 74, before joining the GR 7, which gradually leads you towards Mont Saint-Baudille.
From the heights, spectacular views unfold across the surrounding landscapes — a magnificent panorama and a fitting reward for the final efforts of this beautiful journey.
The trail then takes you along the Cirque de l’Infernet, an impressive natural setting framed by majestic cliffs, before continuing towards Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert and its remarkable heritage.
A final day filled with emotion, combining exceptional panoramas, wild landscapes and remarkable heritage — the perfect way to bring your Saint-Guilhem adventure to a memorable close.

Note: The stages along the trail are determined by the walking pace that we feel is most appropriate. We strive to offer you stages that offer comfort, discovery, and authenticity in hotels, guesthouses, cottages, or unusual accommodations. However, the Saint-Guilhem Trail offers a range of amenities. Generally, bathrooms are integrated into the rooms, but they may be located on the landing or shared in some accommodations.
Half Board
When you choose a half-board trip, which generally includes a set-menu dinner and breakfast, we invite you to let us know about any food allergies or special dietary requirements you may have. Please note that breakfast may be either continental or international, depending on the accommodation.
The establishments should normally be able to accommodate the needs of travellers:

- The parking lot is located at the exit of the village towards Ispagnac / Florac.
You can find them on the map. Do not park in the gravel pit parking lot, which is in a flood zone, or on the main street (there are opportunities for events on this street).
