Hike in Aubrac

The Aubrac region is a dream come true and invites you to escape… These highlands undulate in the wind and are bathed by small, fresh streams… There are also lakes, burons, granite, and livestock. The landscape varies with the seasons and provides a feeling of great freedom. Discover the Aubrac Regional Natural Park during a multi-day hike crossing three departments: Lozère, Cantal, and Aveyron. This trip along the hiking trails of the Tour des Monts de l’Aubrac offers a magnificent panorama of this protected area, a feeling of benevolent solitude, and a sense of rejuvenation… This walking trip allows you to discover nature preserved by farmers who respect traditions. You will often walk in the company of Aubrac cows… Remember to close the enclosure behind you. Your eyes will be drawn to a landscape stretching as far as the eye can see on these large high plateaus interspersed with low stone walls, dotted with granite boulders, Scots pine forests and burons that make up the richness and charm of the high plateaus of Aubrac. This trip will also be an opportunity to savor the famous Aligot…

Depending on your preference, you can choose the version that goes to Nasbinals (a stage of the Camino de Santiago) or go to the Col du Trébatut where the route is much less popular “alone in the world” version. This alternative also offers breathtaking landscapes, including the Pic de Mus, the Truc de l’église, the Signal de Mailhebiau, and a slightly steeper gradient and two longer stages. If you opt for the latter option, the trip will last 10 days (1 additional day compared to the Nasbinals option).

Additional program for the trip via the Col du Trébatut (10-day trip):

  • Day 3: Prisnuéjols – Bonnecombe: 25km – 610m ascent – 7 hours
  • Day 4: Col du Trébatut – Aubrac: 23km – 650m ascent – 6 hours
  • Day 5: Return to the normal route from Aubrac

In order to prepare for your hike, check out our pre-departure tips.

What we love: The breathtaking panoramic view of Aubrac with its endless expanses, mountains, herds, crosses, streams, burons, women and men… We fell in love with these highlands.

Two options to choose from:

  • 9-day tour package based on the day-by-day itinerary
  • 10-day tour package via the Col du Trébatut (description above)
