Whether you’ve already completed the first part of the Chemin du Puy to Aumont-Aubrac or not, we offer a hike that combines the pleasure of walking and discovery. Take the time to embark on an adventure on the Way of Saint James (GR65) from Aumont-Aubrac to Conques.
For this walking trip, we have planned:
- Half-board accommodation (except in Conques booked with B&B basis) in comfortable guesthouses, hotels, or lodges with bed linen and towels included
- Luggage transport from one stage to the next (you only carry your daypack)
- Return by minibus from Conques to Aumont-Aubrac

Aumont-Aubrac, Gateway to the Aubrac
A true gateway to the Aubrac, Aumont-Aubrac charms visitors from the very first steps with the character of its architecture and the authenticity of its landscapes.
Here, the stone tells the story of the village, while the ever-present surrounding nature already hints at the vast open spaces of the Aubrac.
A charming stop where heritage and nature come together, before continuing your journey towards the high plateaus.

The Incredible Aubrac!
Walk through vast, open landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see, surrounded by rolling meadows, traditional stone burons and little streams. Here, everything comes together to create an exceptional setting for walkers: the light, the water, the wide-open spaces and the unspoilt nature that gives the Aubrac its unique character.
With every step, the landscape unfolds like a picture postcard. A wonderful sense of freedom, space and escape accompanies you along the way.

Please note: Prinsuéjols has very limited accommodation options. If no accommodation is available, we will arrange a stay in Montgros, making this a stage of approximately 23.5 km. A transfer to Labros can also be arranged to shorten the stage.

At the Heart of the Aubrac, into Aveyron
Continue your journey through the vast meadows of the Aubrac, where the horizon stretches as far as the eye can see. Your route takes you to the Roc des Loups, a remarkable granite formation where an impressive natural oculus reveals itself.
The trail then gently descends towards Le Bès and the Marchastel Bridge, before leading you to Nasbinals, a charming and emblematic village along the Way of Saint James.
You then continue towards Aubrac, the final stop of the day, where you cross another important boundary: leaving Lozère behind and entering Aveyron.
A spectacular stage through the wild and luminous landscapes of the Aubrac, where granite, meadows and wide-open horizons accompany every step.

From Aubrac, you'll reach the statue of Notre Dame des Gentianes before reaching Saint-Chély d'Aubrac and its pilgrims' bridge. Then it will be time, no doubt with regret, to leave the Aubrac plateau. Rest assured, what awaits you is very pleasant, including the discovery of the majestic Lot Valley! You will arrive in the magnificent town of Saint-Come d'Olt and its twisted bell towers, waiting to be discovered...

You continue your walk along the Lot River to Espalion and then Estaing. A beautiful stage rich in architectural discoveries.

From Estaing to the Heights of Golinhac
From Estaing, the Way invites you to climb once again. Gradually leaving the Lot Valley behind, you return to the rolling landscapes of Aveyron and continue your journey towards Golinhac or Campuac, depending on accommodation availability.
If your stage ends in Campuac, you can follow a variant along the historic route, a wonderful way to experience the Way from a different perspective and walk in the footsteps of pilgrims from centuries past.
A beautiful stage between valleys and plateaus, where the Way reveals a new side of Aveyron while remaining as authentic as ever.

Conques is not far away, and you'll end your journey in style with the discovery of Conques, the pearl of Rouergue. Simply magnificent, with its Sainte-Foy Abbey seemingly emerging from nowhere! You'll spend one last night on the Camino de Santiago in Conques, with your return planned for the next day.

Please note: The stages along the route are determined according to the pace we consider most suitable. We strive to offer stages that provide comfort, discovery, and authenticity in hotels, guesthouses, gîtes, or unique accommodations. However, the level of comfort may vary. Usually, bathrooms are en-suite, but depending on availability at the time of booking, the bathroom or WC may be located on the landing or shared in some accommodations, though this remains relatively rare.

Half Board
When you choose a half-board trip, which generally includes a set-menu dinner and breakfast, we invite you to let us know about any food allergies or special dietary requirements you may have. Please note that breakfast may be either continental or international, depending on the accommodation.
