Do you dream of wide open spaces and hiking in the heart of unspoiled nature, but prefer shorter stages? The Saint-Régis Trail in shorter stages is for you! Hike with peace of mind and experience the Saint-Régis Trail without worrying about logistics. We organize your more gentle stages, so your walking trip remains a pleasure. Take advantage of the GR 430 trails to discover, in a natural setting that seems reserved just for you, the basin of the Puy-en-Velay urban area, the high volcanic plateaus of Mézenc, and Haute-Ardèche, before returning through the forests to Haut-Lignon and the peaks of the Meygal massif.

Bonus: The L’Autre Chemin agency is located in Le Puy-en-Velay at 5 rue Grangevieille, which allows us to easily meet you upon your departure and offers us extensive knowledge of the trail.

A day exploring the town of Le Puy-en-Velay.

After discovering the connection between Monastier-sur-Gazeille and the writer Robert Louis Stevenson, today you'll continue your hike in the footsteps of Saint-Régis - GR430, visiting Freycenet-Latour and the Etang des Barthes before reaching the incredible thatched cottage village of Moudeyres.

Hike across the volcanic highlands of Mézenc! Meadows and mountains as far as the eye can see, a chance to discover the Mézenc fin gras farms and their characteristic homes.

Your path leads you to the far reaches of Haute-Loire, before crossing into Ardèche as you reach Saint-Agrève.

You leave Saint-Agrève and follow the shores of Lake Devesset, a magnificent setting, before climbing back up through forests and broom to soon reach Rochepaule.

From Rochepaule, head towards the Doux River before climbing to the hilltop village of Lalouvesc, which offers magnificent views of the Alps in particular.

You descend from the wooded highlands to reach Dunières, its tower and its 12th-century Romanesque church. Dunières is now a stop on the Via Fluvia.

Before reaching Tence, you pass through Montfaucon, whose church houses 12 Flemish paintings, and further on, Montregard, where Saint Regis saved the village from the plague. Enjoy the incredible panorama as you reach the village of Tence.
Note: To shorten this stage, you have two alternative routes, totaling 4 km.

A day through the Lignon and Meygal mountains, passing through Saint-Jeures under the watchful eye of the Pic du Lizieux, then the Testavoyre peak, to reach Queyrières and its magnificent phonolitic rock... A day spent hiking alongside volcanic peaks.

What a magnificent descent to reach the Capitoline city of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil. You walk under the knowing gaze of the volcanic peaks. A short stage today, but one that has many surprises in store!
If you want to walk a little further, explore the Sentier des Etoiles, a magnificent themed PR that leads you to the Betz Observatory, which offers a beautiful view of the Le Puy urban area and much further afield.

The final stage of this route, to reach Le Puy-en-Velay, you will take the GR 65 and 430 trails together to cross the Loire at Brives-Charensac to reach the capital of Haute-Loire, where :

Note: The stages along the trail are determined by the walking pace that we feel is most appropriate. We strive to offer you stages that offer comfort, discovery, and authenticity in hotels, guesthouses, cottages, or unusual accommodations. However, the Saint-Régis Trail offers a variety of accommodations. Generally, bathrooms are integrated into the rooms, but they may be located on the landing or shared in some accommodations.
By train
The town of Le Puy-en-Velay has a train station that takes you right to the city center, close to your first hotel and all the sights and shops. In short, it’s very pleasant to take the train from home to begin your hike in Le Puy. Psst, even if the journey may seem long, when you arrive via Saint-Etienne, the tracks run alongside the wild Loire Valley, a truly beautiful sight!
By car
Le Puy is accessible by road, notably via two main roads: the RN88 from Saint-Etienne/Lyon or Aubenas/Mende, or via the RN102 (Clermont-Ferrand). There are suitable parking lots on site, but we’ll explain everything in your travel guide!
