The Camino de Santiago from Conques to Cahors

Have you already completed the first two stages of the Camino de Santiago on the GR65 to Conques? We suggest you continue and follow the red and white markings from Conques to Cahors, from Rouergue to Quercy. A route dotted with local curiosities, low walls, dolmens, and wonderful encounters! Along your hike, you’ll discover Figeac, a beautiful town where you can explore the Champollion Museum, and Cahors, a charming town bathed by the Lot River, the Pont Valentré, and its neighborhoods blending heritage and modernity.

The highlights of your stay:

Day 1 : Your arrival in Conques

Welcome to Conques, a magnificent village in the Rouergue region of Aveyron. Discover its center and the magnificent Sainte-Foy Abbey.

Day 2: Conques - Livinhac-le-Haut - 22,5km - 6h30 - D+750m

On the Camino de Santiago! It's a wonderful time to get back on the Camino, which offers magnificent views of the city. You'll begin your journey with a climb to reach the Sainte-Foy Chapel. Then, descend towards the town of Decazeville before heading back up to Livinhac-le-Haut.

Day 3: Livinhac- Figeac - 24,5km - 6h20 - D+500m

Continuing along the path, you reach the village of Montredon, where the route now gently winds towards the Célé Valley (view of Lake Enguirande) and Figeac, your stopover.

Day 4: Figeac - Cajarc - 30km - 8h - D+600m

A long and beautiful day of hiking, even if once again the day begins with a beautiful climb. The route calms down and leads you to the very beautiful village of Faycelles. You will continue on a small road to reach the Mas de la Croix near the village of Béduer. Further on, continuing on the GR 65, you will reach the small village of Gréalou. Continuing quietly on the GR65 accompanied by dry stone walls and hedges of cazelles, you will discover a pleasant panorama just before plunging towards the Lot valley and reaching Cajarc.

Day 5: Cajarc - Limogne en Quercy - 19km -4h45 - D+395m

A more leisurely stage today, you'll continue through the Quercy Mountains to reach the small and pretty village of Limogne. There, you'll discover the cazelles (small houses) or gariottes (small houses), and even the bories (small shelters without frames)!

Day 6: Limogne en Quercy - Lalbenque - 24km - 6h - D+255m

You'll still be walking in the Causses du Quercy Natural Park, and the trail will continue through chain groves and along dry stone walls and dolmens. You'll walk alongside magnificent villages such as Varaire, Vaylats, and Bach. Welcome to the land of wash houses and the Quercy black truffle!

Le Pont Valentré à Cahors
Day 7: Lalbenque - Cahors - 20km - 4h30 - D+315m

Today, your route won't really cross any villages, but it even seems to avoid them... a walk in the heart of nature. Further on, you'll "glide" to reach the beautiful town of Cahors, which will punctuate your hike!

Conques en Rouergue - Aveyron
Day 8: Journey back to Conques

Meet at 10:30 a.m. in the SNCF train station parking lot where a minibus will take you to Conques. Arrival is expected at 1:30 p.m. depending on road conditions.

  • Accommodation in a private room (with sheets and towels) according to the configuration selected at booking: twin, double, triple, multiple, or single (with supplement)
  • Half-board accommodation (excluding the Figeac stopover, which are booked on B&B basis)

The Credential The pilgrim’s passport to be stamped at each stop.

We offer the Credential of the Friends of the Way of Saint James as an option. No need to travel; it will be sent to you with your travel diary before your departure. However, if you plan to attend the Pilgrims’ Mass at 7 a.m. at Le Puy Cathedral, you can find credential on site. Price: €7 / credential when booking your hike

By Train

Conques-en-Rouergue does not have a train station. However, if you arrive by train, here is some information on how to get to Conques.

  • From Paris: Arrival at Saint-Christophe train station, then take a taxi to Conques.
  • From Paris, Bordeaux, Toulouse, or Marseille: Arrival at Rodez train station, then take bus line 223 (during school term) or a taxi.

By Car

Conques is accessible by road. Here are the main mileage indicators:

  • Paris: 630 km – A20 or A71 Lyon: 360 km Marseille: 370 km
  • Toulouse: 185 km – A68 then RN88
  • Montpellier: 205 km
